【CorelDRAW】What You Can Do with Text Graphics

CorelDraw comes equipped with features for designing using vector graphics, but it also offers powerful text tools for adding rich text expressions to advertisements, logos, illustrations, and photos.

This article summarizes the handy features of CorelDraw’s text tools, providing a kind of reverse dictionary for what you want to achieve.

If you want to add regular text to your graphics

Select the Text tool from the toolbox on the left side of the screen (shortcut: F8 key).
Left-click on the point in the drawing window where you want to insert the text.
Enter your text.

You can edit the text at the character level, adjusting font, text size, fill color, background fill, outline thickness, and color freely. You can also use superscripts and subscripts to represent formulas.

Moreover, combining vertical writing, superscripts, and more allows for expressions like comic speech bubbles or mathematical formulas.

To draw text along the path of an object (segment or path)

Simply select the Text tool, left-click on the target segment, and the text will automatically align along the line. You can later edit the text, characters, and alignment.

To fit text inside an object

You can place text inside the outline of existing shapes. After selecting the Text tool, hover over the target object, and a “dashed rectangle (range)” will appear. This feature works not only with closed shapes like rectangles or circles but also with more complex shapes like stars.

Paragraph text

Converting text into paragraph text allows for decorations like bullet points, numbered lists, drop caps, etc. Select the text you want to edit, right-click, choose Convert to Paragraph Text, and then use the Paragraph button on the docking window or the Text menu.

Useful text features

Character count

Automatically counts characters and paragraphs in the selected text. Select the text, go to the menu bar, choose Text Tools -> Character Count.

Spellcheck and Replace

Spellcheck and replace words in the selected text.
Select the text, go to the menu bar, choose Text Tools -> Spellcheck

Export text as an image

You can export individual text or shape objects created in Corel DRAW as images.
Select the text, go to File -> Export for specific export options.
